Beat the heat: How to prepare your skin for a sun kissed summer
Summer is the season for sunshine, beach trips and outdoor activities. However, the increased sun exposure, heat and humidity can take a toll on your skin. Summer heat can make your skin oilier, leading to clogged pores and more acne breakouts. Additionally, more UV ray exposure increases melanin production, resulting in darker, tanned skin or itchy sunburn, depending on your sensitivity to the sun.
Ways to Prepare Your Skin for Summer
1. Cleanser: Keep it gentle.
Start your routine with a gentle foaming cleanser that removes excess oil and impurities.
2. Exfoliate: Less is more
Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and keeps your skin smooth. Opt for a gentle exfoliator and use it at least once or twice a week.
3. Toner: Balance and refresh.
A toner helps to balance your skin’s PH and remove impurities.
4. Moisturizer: Light and non-greasy.
Use a gel-based moisturizer during summer months. Apply it every couple of hours to ensure your skin stays protected all day.
5. Sunscreen: The ultimate must-have.
Applying sunscreen is the most crucial step in your summer skincare. Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen and reapply it every three hours if you are spending time outdoors.
6. Serum: Hydration and antioxidants.
Use a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized. Additionally, a vitamin C serum can provide antioxidant protection and brighten your skin.
7. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
Hydration is key to maintaining healthy skin. In summer it’s not only healthy for your skin but also for your overall well-being.
